Very Slow download speeds when Routers used

I am stumped by the issue I am having. I ran several speed speediest.net and I am getting amazing speeds 6mb down 6mb up running the strait hardwire to my computer with 30-40 ping "without a router connected".

However when I connect a router I get 30-40 ping .50-1.5mb download and 6mb upload on the hard wire running through the router and on the Wifi. I have tested this on two Netgear routers and a brand new Linksys router. I know all my RJ45 cables are perfect and my network cards are not the issue. I have this narrowed down to the routers being the problem. I have DHCP enabled, disabled QOS WMM Support and set my MTU to 1400 and even Auto. I have done this on all 3 Routers and they all are doing the same exact thing, 1mb down and 6mb upload. I have updated to the latest firmware on the routers and even done a factory restore on them. I know my routers are perfect and do not have bad ports. I used my router on Cable internet and never had an issue like this before. It almost seems as if the routers are capping at 1-1.5mb download. I am running out of options as to why this is happening. Does anyone have any ideas as what else I can do? I really need to be able to share my connection on my router.

Are you reciving your internet via a wifi antenna from someone else, or are you paying for service from an ISP. If you have an ISP then you have to have some sort of media converter device that is commonly refered to as a modem.

in the dial up days we had modems that modulated and demodulated (MO-DEM) the analog phone signal to digital and vice versa. When cable and dsl came out they just kept the modem name because everyone was familiar with that term; in fact though the device is really a media converter that converts one data format (like docsis from cable companies) to ethernet.

The media converter is probably built in to the equipment on your roof then. There has to be some sort of equipment that takes the packets recieved by the antenna and converts it to ethernet.

If power cycling the antenna does no change then you will have to call your ISP and talk to their support. With factory reset settings it seems horribly unlikely that 3 different routers all had connection issues. Do you know if your ISP uses static or dynamic ip, any authentication or any extra special configuraitons in the router?
