I don't know about the older episodes, but I got MW3, BO1, BO2 and Ghosts on my Steam Account. They all launch straight from Steam.
I suppose even MW2 works the same way, but for older episodes I get the feeling it was based off a dedicated server or off GameSpy.

If the game is legit, you should've linked it to your Steam account by typing in the CD-Key that came with it. The message you got makes me think you actually never did that, and simply installed the game while just telling Steam to launch it. That would be impossible anyway, due to the fact that, if you launched the game from the executable directly, it would either not work, telling you need to have Steam running to play the game, or it would launch...

Well this is answer:Some detailed information on Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is unavailable because it is a non-Steam mod or shortcut.Steam will still manage launching the game for you and in most cases the in-game overlay will be available. What should I do.

Uhm....is the game legit? Steam not recognizing one of his games...that's a first for me...
Not to mention you're getting API related messages (and I suppose it's referring to the steam.dll API that comes with each game) and "Steam not running" notices...

If you go to your Steam library, there should be a small option in the lower left corner called "Add game" or something (mine is in a different language, so it may differ a bit). By clicking there, another menu will popup with 3 options:
1 - "Add a non-Steam game"
2 - "Activate product on Steam" <-- select this option
3 - "Browse games on Steam store"
Follow the instructions in the new window that pops up and insert the CD-Key code.

If it says the game was already activated on any other account different than yours, there's something else we don't know yet. Either that, or something went wrong with activation, so I suggest you contact Steam support as well, just in case.
