I'm planning on building a new office desktop for just email/office stuff.

I am going with:

  • - Intel Core i3-4130 Haswell 3.4GHz LGA 1150 54W Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4400
    - ASRock B85 Pro4 LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
    - CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
    - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
    - Corsair Carbide Series 200R Black Steel / Plastic compact ATX Mid Tower Case
PSU maybe overkill, but price wise seemed to be the same as the 430.
The HD and CD drive come from the old PC this one will be replacing.

Anything wrong with this build? AM I missing or overlooking something?
Thanks for the help!

Here is how I priced your components. POsting this here for reference so I can create an alternate build for comparison.

I do have a few questions, since you omitted the hard drive and the OS, do you have those or did you forget them? You may also need an optical drive to install the OS, unless you have a USB optical drive or know how to put the WIndows Install Media on a USB flash drive.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-4130 3.4GHz Dual-Core Processor ($109.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock B85M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($79.99 @ Newegg)...
While you will not put any stress on a 500watt psu with that build, the cx series psus use inferior capacitors and have had premeture failure rates. For your build I would look at something more like a Antec EarthWatts.

If budget allows for it, a SSD drive will give you a huge boost in performance. I would use the SSD drive for all of your OS and files and use your old hard drive to backup files to.

Outside of PSU it is a good build with solid parts, it should serve you very well.

What about the OS?

Are you seriously just going for the lowest possible price or does factors like noise and size of the case play a role?

Here's a really-low-cost build in a small case. :)

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock H81M-DGS R2.0 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($46.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Corsair 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($74.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: Nanoxia NXDS4B MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($79.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $271.96

It will still function well as an office PC.

I have the OS, HD and CD drive from the old box I am retiring. IF after I plug some of those part in they don't work well they'll get replaced as well, but AFAIK they are still good. (I hooked the drive as a secondary drive to a second desktop I have around and it works fine).

Noise is not an issue, Ive been using PC for a long time and I still have to come across a build that I find too noisy. As for case size I prefer the larger ones, not a fan of building a ship-in-a-bottle. ;)

Thanks everyone for the valuable input.
