RAM not recognized

I just upgraded my MSI motherboard (H61M) and it does not recognize the 16 gb. I sees it as 4gb do I need a BIOS upgrade or what?

If you don't have the latest BIOS, it's a good idea to get it as well as making sure all your drivers are up to date. Also, make sure that the sticks are seated properly. You might also want to check each stick individually in the working dimm slot, and the working stick in each of the other slots.

What operating system are you running? If it's a 32-bit Windows, that would be the answer right there.
