I hope that typing this out will help my blood stop from boiling ;)

A few days ago, I was attempting to play Skyrim, After the Bethesda logo, my computer froze and I was forced to restart. After the restart, I noticed that my GPU (GTX 570) had an error code 43 listed under it in device manager. After trying to uninstall the drivers and finding no luck, I decided just to reinstall Windows 7. After the install, I was still having problems so I ordered a GTX 770.

770 just got here today. That was an adventure too, I installed it but was getting a blank screen wether I was plugged in to the GPU or Mobo, but if I took the GPU out then the mobo would display. Kind of where I'm at right now. The 770 also has the error code 43 listed under it. I'm trying to update the drivers right now through Geforce Experience.

Anyways, I'm not really a computer smart person, but from looking around (and common sense) it seems like my problem is mobo related. Any insight you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated, thanks for reading!

Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Quad Core)

Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE (Intel Z77 Chipset)

Power Supply: 800W Corsair GS (Dual SLI Compatible)

Try updating your BIOS firmware and inserting it into a different pci-e slot.

if it was working fine and then it just did not it maybe a power supply issue as in it not supplying the correct power to the card anymore[??] or the pci-e slot failing and not supplying the correct power to the card [???] hard to say seeing you got 2 cards that seem to fail in the same way

Updated the bios from 1206 to 2104. After I got a message about it being successful and restarting, my computer did so but the screen stayed blank. I heard the desktop sound from my speaker, so I shut down, took out the GPU and restarted. I actually had to do that once before (remove gpu, set display priority to integrated gpu, replace gpu) just to get to my device manager and see the GTX 770. Stumped!

I have three pcie slots and have moved the card from it's original spot to another one.....no luck.

Kind of thought I had fixed it, but knew it was too good to be true.

Randomly, the yellow ! went away from device manager, and I was able to use the GPU to display my desktop. Trying to double check if it was actually working, I attempted to open Skyrim a few times but got CTDs. Restarted and went back to having to remove the GPU to get the mobo to display the desktop. Sigh.

Not sure if it's related, but every time I boot, I get a message on my desktop.

My apologies, I'm looking at the posts but I don't see what you asked me to look at/do?

As of right now, my GPU is working. I can display through it and I was able to launch Skyrim.

I'm still worried though, since it's recently started doing these brief periods of working.

Ran a memtest that came back fine. I think since I switched GPUs and still got the same error I can rule them out. Narrows it down to Mobo, CPU or PSU...at least in my mind. Thoughts? It's a sad/scary feeling that only a gamer can know, worried your computer will stop working at any moment.

You did say that. I don't have another PSU to switch out and test it with...so there is literally (that I'm aware of) no way to check it right now. I'm trying to narrow this down as much as possible, and I thank all of you for helping me. Sorry that I'm "running on", but I've read a lot of these problem threads and the number one mistake people make is not enough information.

well welcome to computers -- when a issue comes up some tims it can be bad you think its the card you get a card put it in and its not then you think psu you get one and find its not you think is memory so you get memory well that's not it -- you see where this can go?? you may spend more time and money on trying to fix this issue then have spare parts enough to just get a board and have a new build

when you have a issue that's not a quick easy fix it sucks , sucks big time

I'm noticing that ;)

Got a few hours of Skyrim in, then back to error 43. The screen locked up with a black and white square pattern and restarted the computer. Suppose payday I'll get a new PSU...but a modular one, because I've had to replace the PSU once already and it was not fun. If that's not it, guess I'll save up for a mobo.

ya it hard to know where you stand on some of this stuff bad thing is its all guess work you may get a new psu and still be screwed ..

look at psu reviews at these sites -- johnny guru--tecpower up-- hardware secrets--- they give disassembly reviews and point out any parts they don't like or sub standard in a unit .. no point spending $50 on one that got 2ed or 3ed tier parts when theres one with 1st rate parts for $65

look at this ones review , after reading it would you put it in your primary rig??

Uhhhh...no! That's horrible.

In your (guys) opinion(s), do you think it's more likely the mobo or psu? I'll remember it's just an opinion, but I'm wondering if I should buy psu then mobo or vice versa. Just dawned on me, but I suppose it could even be the cpu, Heck, could be a loose cable that I can't even see.

see what I mean?? one thing you will have is plenty of back up parts if you get down to a new board but I guess the psu would be a next step
