Wondering if I should OC my i5 750

Recently my HIS 7870 GPU died. I am not sure why. It was only one year old, and HW Monitor always showed very low or good temperatures for it. (It was suggested in another thread that my 42" HD TV that I had it connected to might have caused stress on it, although I am a novice and don't know myself. I have a monitor now though).

But I have an i5 750 and Gigabyte P55-UDP4 motherboard (or might be UD4P, I mix the numbers/letters up). My CPU is at the stock 2.66GHz. I do have a good fan on it (would have to ask my brother the name of it, he built it for me pretty much, I'm a novice to put it lightly, it is his old setup pretty much).

Should I OC the CPU a little, with a 7870 level card, or is stock ok? Im not so worried about graphics, I just want to make sure I do what's right for the hardware. Or perhaps get a new CPU and mobo?

I wouldn't overclock that CPU because it has a locked multiplier (meaning you can't overclock it much or maybe nothing at all) But that doesn't mean it's the end of the world.

There is a sweet deal I found just for you.

CPU and Motherboard deal that can change your experience for a long time until you upgrade again.

CPU option: Intel i5 4670k, It's higher than the budget i5 3570k and can overclock like a beast (it has to have a "K" at the end though) but if you are on a tight budget go for the i5 3570k, it delivers almost the same performance at stock speeds and the advantage is that you can overclock it a bit more than the i5 4670k.

As of the Motherboard, I'd get the Asus Z87-K as it's a Overclocking monster and will never fail you. But if your looking for more features, get the Z87-A, Less overclock but more features and 4K support!.

These two can change your experience,

Hope this helped a bit.

BTW: those i5's didnt have a "K" version and they could be overclocked
