Im planning an ITX gaming build, and I know a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo can fit in my rig, but I would prefer something smaller. I saw LinusTechTips do an ITX build with an AXP-100, so I thought it must be a pretty good cooler, and i liked how small it was, but I cant find any performance tests or reviews of it against the CM 212 Evo. So I ask here. How good is the AXP-100 versus the CM Hyper 212 Evo?
It will be in a Fractal Design Node 304 case.

Also, what are some other good low profile coolers that can compete well enough with the 212 Evo? Any recommendations?

I know water cooling is an option, and im thinking about it, but lets please stick to air cooling for this thread.

Any help, recommendations, and feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I know you wanted Air Cooling but something like the Corsair H55 runs about $50 which is like 15 ish more than the 212 Evo. You might want to invest in that as it's cooler and very low profile.

The 212 Evo is probably the most recommended CPU cooler on the market.

If I was to go water cooling, I would get the Seidon 12V from Cooler Master. It performs better and even a little cheaper. Its a bit louder, but if the fan is slowed down, it can be nearly silent. Also, im gonna use a Noctua NF-F12 fan for the radiator instead of the stock, no matter if I get a water cooler or air cooler.

I really want to know how it goes with the 212 evo vs the axp-100. I know the 212 is like the standard for the market, for a good reason, but I really want/may need something smaller, like the axp-100, but I cant find any real performance tests or specs for the axp-100.

I would water cool, but I keep worrying that the loop will leak eventually and ruin my rig. Its just a matter of time, if you think about it, eventually something has to go wrong. With air cooling, nothing can leak lol.

As long as you are able to dry out all the components nothing should go wrong if you water cool. Also, it's not technically water. It's some compound (some weird thing) thats not water.

I would highly suggest a water cooler as it would fit better. The thing I don't like about the Seidon 120v is that the radiator looks extremely thick. That may be good for some people but for your case I think the H55 would be better ( I use it and it's very thin and compact).

Yes, putting NF-F12's on ANYTHING is a good idea :)

The radiator being thick doesnt matter to me, just as long as the ram would fit, which it should since ill be getting low profile ram. http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Ballistix-Profile-DDR3-1600-BLS2C8G3D1609ES2LX0/dp/B00A14ZT8I/ref=psdc8_t3_B006YG9EEW_B00A14ZT8I?tag=hardfocom-20

Frostytech did a comparison of somewhere around 200 heatsinks on both AMD and Intel platforms at 85 and 150w

Scroll to the bottom for a link. It uses the Hyper212 plus, which is almost the same as the EVO. If you can find some promising low profile coolers, chances are more than 1 will be on the list, or at least comparable.
