My laptop recently gave out on me. As a data management solution i purchased a 3.0 2.5in SATA hard drive enclosure. Got everything connect and my hard drive pops up but i dont have permission to view certain files and folders. i was wondering if anyone had a solution to that problem. Also i was wondering how i could put a copy of windows 7 professional that i could boot or run from my new external hard drive.

what was the OS on the old drive and what OS are you accessing it from?

Your c:\users\whatevername will be protected, even when slaving the disk. Go to the permissions tab (rightclick) and first take ownership of these folders. The replace permissions to the files and folders, you will then get acces. Booting from external usb'ed disk is not impossible but it will be deadslow, not something you want to try out unless you are desperate.
