I've just been wondering. I have an evga g2 850 watt powersupply and I have 2 asus TOP r9 270x's. I'm just wondering if my power supply is overkill for 270x CF. My tech specs are here.

Corsair carbide 400r with 6 fans installed
2X Asus direct CU 2 top 270x 2GB
Asus Z87 plus
Intel core i7 4770k at stock clock at the moment
CM Hyper 212 Evo
16GB Of corsair vengeance Lp ddr3
EVGA 850 g2
1TB WD caviar black
1TB WD caviar blue

I think it is, I'd suggest prob around 650 - 700 since 850 is reserved for the higher end GPU SLI

750w minimum for some decent headroom. 650w will be pushing it. 850w will be overkill, but if you get it, you'll have plenty of room for additional stuff if need be or you could carry it over to your next build in the future.

750 - 800 seems to be the butter zone then. Don't get anymore or you'll just be inefficient.

It's more power than you need, but will do no harm as the PSU will only pull from the wall
what the components require at any point in time. Yes, if the draw is very low efficiency could suffer
somewhat, but the upside is that the 850w G2 won't work as hard as a 750w unit, and should
be cooloer and quieter as a result.

It is overkill but there is no reason to replace it, as the power will only be used as needed by the Pc, there is no wasted power, and it never hurts to have a bigger wattage for upgradability. :-)

Well it depends though, because it's designed to output what it says, so if you use too high of a PSU then it loses efficiency over time.
