Hello, I recently got a new graphics card (powercolor Radeon hd 6970). My last graphics card (Radeon hd 7750) didn't have any power cables connected to, but it still had power and ran fine. I'm wondering if I have to connect my power supply to it.

The graphics card came with a 8 pin to 4 pin cable. But I have nothing to plug it into.

More about : power cable gpu

On the PSU (if it's not a crummy one that's made by some unknown from god knows where) there should be a PCI-E 6-pin adapter or maybe 8 pin depending on the psu. Take that cable and plug it into the port(s) that is(are) on the side of the 6970.

Yes you will need to plug a 8 pin and a 6 pin PCIE cable. If your power supply doens't have the cables for it , i would recommend you to get a power supply which will support the gpu.
This one will:

Yes you would need a new PSU if yours does not support it. That could be a major issue with running it. If you don't give it power the system will not boot and you will not be able to do anything :)

I did that but I have nothing else to plug the 6 pin cable into.

what do you mean nothing else? Both plugs on the GPU should be filled.

Yes. any modern PSU over 500W will come with those plugs guaranteed.

So this one will work for shure?

definatly this has like i think 2 pci-e 6and 8pin connectors. those are also quality and will allow for high watt/amp upgrades

One more question. Could you tell me the difference between the two?

One more question. Could you tell me the difference between the two?

one is 650w and fully modualr and gold efficeny(how well it keeps eletricity from turning into heat) and the 750w is bronze(still good at transfering eletricity.) and semi modualr(not all cables can be removed like full modular)
