Hi all

I have an old pc that I use it for a online game server & downloading/uploading torrent
The cpu of the pc is Intel q5550 but have plan to buy intel i3-4130
Why ? I know Intel q5550 is more than enough but still buying a new gaming pc and with it I have plans to buy a new server pc plus intel i3-4130 cpu...............but am I wasting money? I mean.......

Is

Intel® Core™ i3-4130 Processor
(3M Cache, 3.40 GHz)

better than

Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9550
(12M Cache, 2.83 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)

?

I have seen in here http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ that i3 is a little bit better but Im not sure.
Quad Processor Q9550 have 12M Cache and 2.83 GHz but why intel i3-4130 Processor with only 3M Cache and 3.40 GHz is better?

Solution
Hello,

It is not the quantity, but the way the processor access the cache.

The Q9550 had 2 x E8300 dual-core CPUs joined on the same piece of silicon, so you truly have an 2 x 6MB cache CPU (the two pair of cores couldn't share the cache between them).

The "i" series cores are "monolytical", so the silicon contains only one CPU and each core can access any cache area. Another big advancement is the integrated memory controller and the PCI Express hub (the CPU directly access the RAM and storage/graphics/USB, pretty much everything). All that together gives the new platform much higher efficiency.

i3 is a dual-core with hyper-threading, which means it is a dual-core capable to process 4 simultaneous threads. It has similar...

The I3-4130 is an Intel Socket 1150 processor and is not compatible with the motherboard that houses your Intel Q9550 (socket 775); meaning you would need to purchase a new motherboard and new RAM as well as the Intel CoreI3 processor. The I3 would be a better processor due to better architecture of the much newer processor and motherboard chipset.

Yes I am willing to buy new part....only need to buy 4th gen motherboard, have ddr3 ram...and all
Please can you describe more ? I'm not fully convinced with this short info
I mean

Quad Core Q9550 have 4 core & i3-4130 only 2 core

Quad Core Q9550 have 12M Cache & i3-4130 only 3M

Quad Core Q9550 is 2.83GHz and i3-4130 is little bit higher 3.40

In a manner Q9550 looks powerful & have more.....Whats the difference ? It cant be the only the GHz of the i3 Processors that makes it better....can it?
Or Q9550 is better somehow ?

i3 is a dual-core with hyper-threading, which means it is a dual-core capable to process 4 simultaneous threads. It has similar performance with your Q9550 in heavy threaded applications, but it is much faster if the applications cannot use more than 2 cores simultaneously (games included).
