Hello friends, I am in dire need of your assistance, my computer seems to be blue screening very often when I open games such as guild wars, wow, and a few other games and not with others. A little strange I know. My computer has never blue screened until about a week or two ago and it seems to be happening a lot more frequent. Here's my crash dump

On Wed 7/30/2014 4:25:43 AM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\073014-40232-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: nvlddmkm.sys (nvlddmkm+0x98BD1C)
Bugcheck code: 0x116 (0xFFFFFA8014789010, 0xFFFFF88010488D1C, 0xFFFFFFFFC000009A, 0x4)
Error: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys
product: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 337.88
company: NVIDIA Corporation
description: NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 337.88
Bug check description: This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 337.88 , NVIDIA Corporation).
Google query: NVIDIA Corporation VIDEO_TDR_ERROR

Windows suggested that I disable shadowing and caching in my BIOS? I later learned you can't do that?

I bought this laptop about two and half maybe three years now from xoticpc, and I fear that I might need to replace it, I really don't want to.

So questions
1. How can I stop this blue screening, it's nearly every time I play a game
2. I was reading you should delete your previous nvidia drivers before updating it? How can I do that? Because I've updated my drivers multiple times and have never uninstalled a previous one.

Please help me my fellow friends, I just want to go back to enjoying my PC gaming, I appreciate and thank any help I can get.

Solution

It's still worth a shot running Driver Sweeper and reinstalling fresh as that can sometimes fix problems like these.

Also, what are your temps like on the GPU while doing intensive stuff?

Also this was my first blue screen

Not sure if that helps any from my most recent one.

WhoCrashed solution was: 26 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Only 10 are included in this report. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

nvlddmkm.sys (NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 337.88 , NVIDIA Corporation)

If no updates for these drivers are available, try searching with Google on the names of these drivers in combination the errors that have been reported for these drivers and include the brand and model name of your computer as well in the query. This often yields interesting results from discussions from users who have been experiencing similar problems.

I just updated my graphics card, right now I don't see anything say about fixing problems with the past nvidia driver, do you think installing this driver sweeper and sweeping past drivers will fix the blue screening? If so why are the past drivers making me blue screen?

Actually I understand what you're saying about looking at my temps, I think maybe a year ago or so I think one of my fans just stopped working? The left one works still but the right one works barely. From time to time my laptop shuts off from overheating if I don't keep it on a slant.

Sorry, haven't used driver sweeper in a long while and didn't realize they discontinued it. By the way, have you checked your temps on the GPU to see if they could be causing the issue?

Now one other thing, what GPU do you have?

I'm currently panicking because I downloaded the driver uninstaller, and I don't see geforce experience, or anything like that on my computer. I type nvidia in my windows search bar and nothing pops up not even the control panel. HALP

If you uninstalled the NVIDIA drivers you need to redownload them from here (make sure to select your card): http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

After you install drivers can you please download HWMonitor: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Post your results with the system at idle (nothing running) and then with some load on the GPU (furmark or a game or something).
