Installing Windows 8 OS onto a SSD Help.

After getting everything up and running with my PC, I was going to install the OS onto my SSD so it can act as the primary boot drive, even though my HDD has the OS on it. However, I don't know how to go about it.

So far what I done is remove my HDD from the PC, leaving the SSD plugged in. I assumed that when I set the BIOS to boot from the CD Drive first, I would be prompted by the Boot Disc during installation to select what drive to put the OS on, the SSD. Once that would be done, it would be a matter of setting the Boot priority in BIOS to where the SSD would be #1 and the HDD for #2.

Something didn't feel right and I got cold feet and aborted the whole installation before entering the product key. Was I right to stop? Or would that have been fine?

List of relevant parts:
Motherboard: ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Hi,

1) SSD:
If you have a Windows 8 install disc you can install to the SSD no problem. Then your drivers etc. When you reattach the hard drive you'd then want to:
a) make sure the SSD is still the boot drive (change if needed), then
b) copy back any data needed from HDD, then
c) Format the HDD

2) CLONE:
The other alternative is to simply clone to the SSD, then format the HDD. Might as well try that unless you have a good reason to install Windows from scratch.

Isn't there a way to clone just the OS to the SSD? I spent seven hours so far with installing drivers, programs, as well as restoring files I had on a back-up drive, so I don't want to have to redo all that again or put unnecessary things into the SSD.

I don't mind having the OS on both HDD and SSD, just to be safe.
