Hi

Currently I am running a Gigabyte R9 270 OC 2gb on my system. I was looking to upgrade my system but I'm not sure where to take it. My system is;

AMD FX-6300 6 Core Black Edition Processor
ASRock 970-PRO3 R2.0 Motherboard
Antec High Current Gamer 520W HCG-520
G.Skill Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
Gigabyte Radeon R9 270 Overclocked 2GB

I don't know if I should purchase a second 270 and crossfire, upgrade to a 280x or a 290 and then maybe crosfire with them. With my current PSU I would only be able to upgrade to a 270x. With everything else I would need to upgrade PSU as well. So I was just wondering what configuration should I use?

Thanks

Go for 280X or 290. If you want to upgrade more, I'd have to suggest a FX 8320 or an intel CPU.

Getting another R9 270 is for Xfire is not really an option on your motherboard.
The PCI-e slots will be running at x16 and x4, the x4 slot will be a bottleneck.

Your PSU is a bit low but should be able to handle a R9 280x for a while until you get to upgrade your PSU.

Well, 40A Should support the 290, though playing it safe and getting the 280X seems the best option.

The R9 290 has some weird power spikes, I would not risk it.

So, basically, upgrade to a R9 280X and later, if you want to, upgrade to a more powerful PSU and CPU before upgrading GPU again.

Thanks guys. So I think I will go for the 280x for now until I upgrade my PSU.
