atm i have standard novatech 1600mhz ram 2x8gb. i asked novatech about upgrading to 2x 8gb corsair 2133mhz and they said only if my system is over clocked? i dont know much about pc, they insisted i upgrade to 1866mhz ram but it says on their website the mobo is compatible with 2133mhz ram so how do i install that ram to run correctly?

Yes, your motherboards supports up to 1866 MHz of RAM.. So, 2133 (O.C.) means you can install your RAM and then overclock it to 2133 MHz..

Download the Asus M5A99FX motherboard manual and look in page 3.8 for the Overclocking settings and read the details in page 3.9 https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A99FX_PRO_R20/HelpD...

To support 2133Mhz RAM your CPU would have to be overclocked as it will only support up to 1866Mhz RAM at stock speed. If you do overclock just consider the risks of overclocking specially of a 220W TDP CPU on a 140W TDP motherboard. The CPU is said to run at high 50's C at stock clock and overclocking it may be risky.

No no, overclocking should be done very carefully.. Otherwise, the RAM may become unstable and get damaged.. I know to overclock RAM, but only by means of theoretically only.. I never overclocked my/any RAM in practical, so I don't know the common mistakes done/after affects of overclocking it.. So, you should ask experts "How to overclock RAM" in "Overclock" category in Tom's Forum..

However, same amount of memory at 1866 MHz and 2133 MHz doesn't make much difference..
