Are there actually any noticeable differences in the speeds of different SSDs? For example, this website is comparing benchmarks uploaded by different users of the Crucial M550 and the M500 SSD http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Crucial-M550-256GB-vs-Crucial-M500-240GB/2000vs1551

Amazon lists the M500 $30 cheaper at the moment. Would you actually notice the difference? Besides gaming and some programming for my college classes, the computer would be used for everyday tasks. Thanks.

I maintain the ssd database listed in a sticky at the very top of this forum section. The database includes links to a lot of technical reviews. I do read the reviews. This month I read several brand new reviews where the authors actually wrote that typical consumers will not normally notice any visible performance difference between different 3rd generation SATA 3 6Gb/s solid state drives. This is nothing new. I read the same thing years ago about SATA II 3Gb/s ssd's. Synthetic benchmarks grossly exaggerate minor performance differences. In addition the settings can be manipulated by ssd companies to present ssd's in their most favorable light. I always considered it as advertising hype.

If you are on a tight budget take a look at the...
no won't notice it unless you bench.
i have an m500, worth it, cheap and nice.
however, someone here mentioned that mx100 (not sure if this is the model), is cheaper and faster.

ssd's are fast enough, heck even my old sata2 intel boots 13sec (after the beep). let's say that faster ssd's boot at 10-11 sec, is it worth it? any ssd is faster (by a lot) than conventional hdd

If you are on a tight budget take a look at the brand new Crucial MX100. I already have it listed in the ssd database along with links to technical reviews. Here is a link to the ssd database:

Scroll down to the Crucial section or any other brand you are interested in and follow the links to the technical reviews.
