Hello,

So I'm considering buying a new videocard and my budget is around 175 british pounds or $295.
For that price in my country I can get any one of the three cards in the title:

1. SAPPHIRE TOXIC R9 270X 2GB GDDR5 WITH BOOST
2. ASUS R9 280 DIRECTCU II TOP 3GB
3. PALIT GeForce GTX 760 (2048MB GDDR5)(the basic one-fan design)

My system is going to be:
MB: ASUS Z97-C
CPU:Intel Core i5-4690K
RAM: Corsair DDR3 2133MHz 8GB 2x240 CL9 Vengeance Pro Silver
Storage: Two A-Data Premier Pro SP900 256GB in RAID 0
Case:CM 690 III
PSU: CM V650S
Monitor:ASUS 24 VS247HR

I know there are better r9 280 and GTX 760 models from other manufacturers but they are way more expensive so these are my best options, and considering I'm upgrading from a 4850, any one of those will be a huge improvement.

Given your case is huge, I'd probably get the R9 280. It's likely to outperform the GTX760 in terms of performance as well as heat/noise characteristics due to the better cooler.
That said, if I was buying an R9 280 in the UK, I'd probably get a cheaper one than the Asus. There's an MSI version £15 cheaper and the XFX versions are anything up to £30 cheaper which is a significant amount.
Also, for £175 there's a good selection of quality GTX760s (with proper coolers) so if you have a preference towards Nvidia then they are a pretty good option. The Gigabyte, MSI and Gainward options would appeal to me.

Most "Toxic" type cards (ie the super expensive versions of cards) aren't worth the extra money despite performing above their brethren, as they often end up competing with superior GPUs for price.

Well in Bulgaria the only cheaper 280 is the Powercolor TurboDuo. The MSI Gaming is about £15 more expensive and the XFX Double Dissipation Edition is almost at the Sapphire Dual X 280x price point. As for the 760 there is a Gainward model at a similar price(again a basic one-fan cooling solution) and everything else is £30+ more exppensive.

I think I'm going to get the ASUS DIRECTCU II TOP R9 280
