Hi. I recently reinstalled my Windows XP and ever since I can't set my resolution. It is stuck at 1024x768 and there's a lot of black stuff around the screen which is in the middle of the monitor. The other parts of the monitor are black. I can set it to 1400x900 but then I'm 'flying' with the cursor around the screen.

I thought it's because of the drivers, I reinstalled them - nothing happend. My graphic card is Radeon 9250.

Does your graphics card show up correctly in device manager?
This definitely sounds like missing graphics drivers.

In the device manager, does your monitor show as "generic plug n play monitor" or something to that effect? If so, your monitor may have came with a driver or .inf file which needs reinstalled. Newer monitors can usually "talk" to the video card and let it know which resoloutions it can support. If the monitor didn't come with a CD, check the monitor manufacturer's web site for any necessary files.

As kajot said, sometimes just reinstalling the video drivers will also remedy the situation.

Your mouse is flying? Otherwise the screen is ok? Adjust your mouse speeds.

In the device manager, under monitors there're 3 things: two default monitors and 1 plug and play monitor.

Yesterday I removed my graphic card driver and restarted my PC. Resolution went back to normal but I couldn't do anything. I installed the driver and the resolution got messed up again.

I'd like to note that I used to use this PC and this monitor normally before I reinstalled my windows. It just showed up after the reinstallation.
