I recently broke my cat 5 cable so i bought a cat 5e cable and plugged it in straight from the router(Virgin Superhub) straight to my computer. The hub doesn't light up to say a cable is plugged in and neither does the port in the computer. I troubleshoot the problem and it tells me that it's not plugged in correctly or is broken. I've tested the wire and it's fine. I've tried to update my network adaptor and it says it's up to date. What else can i do?

push it into the router harder. or the network card. If the cable is good, the router will recognize it.
