So I bought an 840 EVO 250GB SSD recently, and for the past few days I have been trying to use the software that came with it to transfer all my data over. It starts up fine, and migrates the data fine until it gets to exactly 470MB. After that the number stops and the time goes until around 2:45-3 minutes before a pop up box will show up saying "Cloning Failed. An error occurred while defragmenting the disk. 308300[04b44c]". I have tried tips on opening with the administrator or making sure something was enabled in the disk management, but nothing so far has helped.

Solution
Use Samsung Magician to Secure Erase your 840 EVO. A Secure Erase restores any SSD to a blank, fresh-out-of-the-box condition.

Once you've SE'd the SSD try the data migration again; this time double-check that you are following the instructions correctly. http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/samsungssd/downloads/Samsung_SSD_Data_Migration_User_Manual_ENG_v27.pdf

Also make sure that you are using the latest Samsung Magician version 4.4 and the latest Data Migration software version 2.7.

Solution
I don't know if this makes any difference but I shrunk my C: partition on my HDD until it was smaller than my 128 GB Samsung 840 Pro.

I first tried the Data Migration tool that was on the CD that shipped with the SSD and that would not work. I then tried a newer version on the Samsung website and that worked just fine. It cloned my C: partition and the System Reserved Partition. The SSD booted on the first try and has been working just fine for the past 10 months.
