I recently bought msi gtx 660 twin frozr IV. I am playing on 1280x1024 resolution. On bf3 I am getting 50+fps with ultra settings and vsync and 30+ fps on DLC maps. I really think it should perform much better just because I am not playing on 1080p.

I am not much of a troubleshooter, but, I think those maps are heavily CPU bound, and your i3 is lacking in that department. Battlefield is a CPU heavy games as well as a GPU heavy game.

No, its not a bottleneck. A bottleneck is when your GPU can't reach 100% under load because of your CPU. A better CPU will give you better performance. Battlefield uses a lot of the CPU, so a good CPu is needed just like a good GPU. Your GPU is fine, your CPU is a bit weak.
