Hello,

I'm currently using an FX 8120 on stock speed with an XFX 6950 2GB.On the last 6 months I figured that my GPU was getting hot and on the last 2 months was confirmed by artifacts.

Now my question:I'm not rich and my main priority is to get a new GPU and few case fans so i can make my case a bit more cooler

After hours of reading on web I figured that so far the best R9 290 GPU is Sapphire tri-x due to the cooling system.

I play games such as WoW and Battlefield 4 and i would like to have your opinion about the GPU and if it will fit with my FX 8120.If not then which GPU should i buy and why?I asked a lot of people that with a kind of knowledge and told me that with a single GPU the latest cpu with their architecture can handle the GPU without bottlenecking around even without OCing the CPU

My specs:
FX 8120 3,1GHZ
Sabertooth 990 FX
G-Skill gaming 8GB
2x SSD OCZ Agility 3 128GB

Thanks in advance!!!!

The 290 is your best value with performance being neck and neck with the 780, for $100+ cheaper.

The 290 is just hot, but that's okay. I use a windforce 290 which is close to the tri-x on temp benchmarks. I can get around 80C while gaming, which is not a big deal for that GPU, with max airflow in my case. It will last a very long time with those temps.

You might get some bottlenecks, but you are still going to be 60+FPS @1080p. Not sure what type of monitor you're running, but unless its 120hz+ or 1440p+, you're not going to notice much.

On the monitor part leave it lol.I really need a gaming one till my current one is a non one and FR is on 60Hz.So you think the bulldozer can handle that GPU even without OCing it at all?I worry and that's why i ask cause I read and read and read and 80% are against AMD .Ok I know that are not capable to deal with Intel but some of us are having money issues and can't affort to change a whole system just to say ok I'm Intel now.

BTW thank you my friend for your time and your answer!!!

If you were to upgrade to intel, you would have a significant FPS increase, and get the most out of the GPU. Like I said, you will get some bottleneck. But, bottlenecking is just lower than potential performance, and you're not going to end up with worse performance than you have now. For the most part you will be 60+FPS and maybe a min FPS of ~29 (arbitrary), but that would be due to quick dips from movement + area effects. OCing will increase the performance, but it will operate perfectly fine with that CPU if you leave it at stock.

I use a r9 290 with an OC'd FX-8320. OCing gave me ~4-7FPS. But I run over 60fps on my 1440p in everything I played since I got it (including mmos).

Good to hear about your specs and how it runs.Never had problems also but i do not like to OC not my thing. Now last question should i stay with the R9 290 or go for an GTX 770 2GB?Not that i don't know about numbers,i know that R9 is outperforming the 770 BUT I ask and see what you ppl here say. It's good to hear opinions-tips etc

I suppose it depends on preference. The AMD GPUs have changed their r9 series since their release, and the current models are quality. It doesn't help that Nvidia runs smear campaigns and have a hardcore gaming following of teenagers that know everything. The thing Nvidia does have is lower temps, drivers as well as better performance with the specs that they use. However, the r9 series is reliable and a much better performance value.

That being said. I do not like that the 770 only has 2GB VRAM. seeing that some games are already able to reach about 1.8 on ultra settings and Anti Aliasing. I think some next gen games are going to force these expensive GPUs to turn down settings because they can't handle the memory resources. This would be sad, because if it wasn't for the memory, they would handle it fine. I play at 1440p, so I am easily over 2GB VRAM already. I think you will be good with the 770 for a good while, but it still irks me a little.

Best performance? r9 290. It will be best, because it will be over kill in most situations, and ensure high FPS with good quality picture.

Best Value? The 280x Which will do the same but not be overkill. Sometimes dipping FPS, but will max out settings easily.

I only went r9 290 because I knew I was going 1440p. If I stayed at 1080P 60Hz, I think I might have been wasting it's potential, since it is capable of much more than that.

Yeah true.Well i know i'll make you mad cause you were writing a lot about my problem lol but i think i'll put aside money and build an extreme Intel gaming pc with really high quality .

For the time being what should i focus on?MSI GTX 660 OC 2GB or SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB?Just to play a little i'm so in bench for about 4 months and getting kinda gaming sick
