Hi everyone, I have recently purchased a pentium G3258 and MSI z97 PC mate mobo in a microcenter deal. I stil have to order the rest of my parts. I have decided to go for a r9 270x and I was wondering if an MSI card would work better with an MSI board. (they said so in the manual, but that could be bullcrap) Thanks everyone :)

More about : msi cards msi boards

Nah, it won't make any difference what brand 270X you choose :p
I used an MSI 270X for one of the builds I've done though and it's been great. So I'd recommend one anyway. :)

That's marketing nonsense. There's no technical reason why that might be the case.

MSI does have some pretty nice GPU coolers so they aren't a bad choice, but there's a lot of good choices and they should all work the same. For an AMD card, I'd look at Sapphire, MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte cards to see who has the best sale/rebates at the moment.

I doubt it. I would just get the one that is priced the best and has good reviews.

Great CPU by the way and Micro does have some great cpu deals. Your video being MSI to match your mobo has no effect. That is just trying to sell their brand. I am a little confused however, why would you buy a $340 cpu and then buy a $150 GPU? Are you gaming with your system? If so, spend more and get a higher level GPU. Buy a card from a reputable vendor with good reviews.

um thats not a $340 CPU... It's like $70. The mobo and CPU were only $100.

Lol. I really like your choices BTW. Tinkering with the Pentium will be fun :D
Asus also make nice 270X's too but I still like the MSI :)

Great choice for a first build. Cheap (read: low risk), easy to work with, and able to be tinkered with a lot.

You should read about some of the major tech sites' adventures with the G3258, if you haven't already:
