Am looking to build a silent PC meant only for playback of music in my home stereo. This is the first time I am doing a PC based media player. It has been a CD player so far.
This will be connected to a Musical Fidelity M1Clic and controlled through my iPad. This is important.

Have been considering the following:
Cabinet: Antec ISK110. This comes with a 90W adaptor
Board: Asus J1800I-C 8GB DDR3 Intel Motherboard
SSD: Corsair Neutron Series 64 GB SSD
RAM: Corsair 4GB (1 X 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz SODIMM
HDD: WD My Passport Ultra 1TB External drive
OS: Undecided. Need inputs here. I have never used anything except Windows
Software: Foobar + Wasapi. I have never used anything except WMP and iTunes

How does this look?

RE: OS

Ubuntu Studio has a LOT of media apps, and not just for playback.

Ubuntu Ultimate also has a ton of media apps.

RE: Audio

If you can' look for a motherboard with a high end CODEC on-board.

RE: Quiet PC

The biggest noise makers in a media PC are rotating HDDs and high RPM cooling fans. If you can, go SSD for storage and large, low RPM fans. I've had a lot of success with Gelid 1000 RPM 120mm fans. They are low RPM optimized for airflow and extremely quiet.
