first build. i try to set mobo in and the standoffs and the holes in the mobo are like 2 mm off and its very annoying, i think the io sheild might be blocking it. should i just not have that attached or what

Solution
Th I/O plate should "snap" into the back of your case - make sure it's in all the way. The plate also has pieces of metal near the cutouts that act as springs - push the mobo back slightly - the holes should line up.

does the I/O shield have 'springs', small cut-outs bent inwards toward the mobo? remove it and lay it on something flat, and straighten them slightly with your thumbs. when refitting make sure it's firmly seated at the edges.
