Recommended processor and graphics card for gaming

I got a starter set for PC gaming and it has an alright processor and graphics card but I want to upgrade them. I have a AMD Athlon II X2-250 and a ATI Radeon HD-4200. I can play some steam games and League of Legends but there are from steam that lag.

Recommendations? I was thinking of getting a Radeon HD 6450 or better.

Do you have a budget in mind? Also are there any steam games you want to play in particular and at what resolution/settings? Another thing do you know what motherboard and power supply you are using or if you are using an OEM system what Model you have?

Besides that I would recommend at least getting something on the level of an R7 250 or GT 740 to keep you out of arms reach of current and upcoming IGP (Integrated Graphics) performance.

I say new rig entirely built from the start as you would proabably with those specs not really have any decent specs

Somthing like an amd apu could work for you, or an fx 6300, or fx 4 with maybe something like a gtx 560
