So on my desktop I get around .5-.75kbps and on my ipod I'm getting around 11mbps. They're in the same room. Sometimes my computer will have fast connection and out of no where It just drops to really slow speeds, even kicking me off of skype. I don't believe it's the wireless adapter card I bought because it was doing it on my old one too. I can't think of any way to fix this.
My desktops wifi is slower than any other device in the house

First, what's your Operating System? Second, what is the model of the Wireless NIC you purchased and how far from your Wireless Access Point is it?

Look at where your computer is placed... is it a desktop, and the wireless antenna is in the back, against the wall? Metal shelving can also affect this. Try turning the computer to the side, or moving it so the antenna has a better line of sight in the direction of your wireless router.
