Why has my 290 stopped working properly after installing a second?

I had an R9 290 running by itself with no problems until I installed my second one today.

After I installed the second one, I didn't notice the issue until I started
ARMA 3 because it works in 1080p with the HDMI plugged into the first GPU but it's like it just doesn't have any power when it comes to the games.

Can someone please explain to me what is happening?

It might be your psu. If one graphics card requires an amount of watts, one might not be getting enough.
It might also be that the 12vrail doesnt have enough amps for the card.

Hmm, well I did have a bit of a ghetto set-up.

Here's the scoop with my PSU:

It only has two 6+2 pins which were originally attached to the one XFX 290 but when I got my second one, I ran one 6+2 to the XFX and the other 6+2 to the ref and then the remaining 6 pin on each got fed by my molex to 6-pin adapters that came with each card. So all in all, the 6-pins are running off of my molex's and my 8-pins are running off of my PSU. Is this the issue? Where can I test to see if the cards are getting enough power?

Yup, the 6 pins are supposed to be into the psu.

So are the 8's able to be not directly plugged in?

The r9 290 requires 6+8 pin connections. If the 6 pins are from the molex is it connected into the psu?

If not, this is the problem.

The 6 pins ARE connected to the molex. So if I understand correctly, the 6 pins are some how NOT getting proper voltage?

Exactly, they are supposed to get power from the power supply.
