Ok I am completely a noob when it comes to hardware of a pc , my motherboard recently died, so I am out looking for a new one, was told if I get the same kind I had it would be easier to install and get going due to having the same drivers. Well If I decide to not get the same , what do I look for? I would like to use the same processor I have which is a intel E6500 2.93 ghz. the mobo I had was IPIBL-LB 492774-001. It is used as a gaming pc so everything else I have works just not the mobo. So any Ideas as to what kind of mobo I can purchase and use this processor with still?

Is your PC Pre-built (HP, Dell, Asus, Acer, etc.)? If so your only option is to get the same motherboard since the Windows OS(?) is tied to it due to OEM licensing. If you were to change your motherboard to a different brand, you would also have to purchase Windows 7 or 8 unless you would like to use Ubuntu or some other kind of Linux OS.

It is prebuilt and when it turns on it says HP , and I found one identical to what I had so i guess it wont be difficult, I do have a new Win 7 disc so that wouldnt be a problem but I am tired of restoring windows especially if I dont have to. but thank you for the help :)
