Hey community, i have a Corsair CX500 and my speccs are:
Gigabyte Z87-HD3
i7 4770
ATI 7770
2x4gb Ram
1xSSD
1xHDD blue caviar
4x 12mm Fans

I would like to upgrade my GPU to R9 270 or 270x and was wondering if my PSU can handle this GPU

More about : 500w

Yes. The wattage is fine although the CX series are horrendous. Upgrade the PSU anyway if you can afford to. :)
EVGA G2 series are the best value right now. 750W would be perfect for a 270X as it's cheaper than most 650W gold PSUs and will run your system at it's peak efficiency. If that's too expensive for the the EVGA B2 750W is nearly as good for a much cheaper price. You can find reviews for the G2 series on JonnyGuru.com. :)

You don't actually need anywhere near 750W but because those PSUs are such good value it doesn't matter.

I agree with everything Alex says, but the CX series isn't "horrendous". There's no reason to throw out your current PSU in alarm. I have a CX600M, and from my experience and others, it is reliable, just not built with as high-quality components as some of Corsair's better lines.

It'll run it just fine. I just won't be surprised if the PSU eventually fails though, or ripple and bad voltage control causes issues. It'll also get very loud when pushed to it's limits. :(
