PSU failed, need help installing new one.

Recently my PSU failed (I assume due to high load) and I've read that this can also damage other components in a build. Should I try to install new the PSU and try to boot as normal? Or should I try breadboarding first? I'm not too bothered if I install the PSU, try to boot and then discover that more components are damaged, as long as I don't cause any further damage.

Thanks, Josh

More about psu failed installing
  1. Go ahead and install the PSU and try to boot up. This won't affect any components. If it boots OK, you're good to go. If it doesn't boot, the old PSU took other components with it.

just install the new psu and boot normally.....yes a faulty psu can damage other parts of the system especially the board...your new psu will not case any new problems but if u have old hardware problems it will still be there unless the problem was power shortage or a faulty psu itself..
  3. Thanks, also I have a new liquid cooler to be installed at the same time as the PSU, should I first try to boot the system and then install the new cooler, or does it not matter if I go ahead and install it all together?
  4. no how will u install the cooler if the pc is on you have to first remove the old heatsink remove the old thermal paste and then add the new thermal paste mount the new cooler then set the radiator and the fans ....

I know, but what I mean is, should I check that the system works before installing the new component? Or can I just install it all in one go? (Obviously I'll have to turn off and unplug to install anything...)
  6. ohh yes.....check the system before then install the cooler...
