Since I'm getting new PC I was wondering if you could help me. I've always had one hard disk with 2 partitions - one for windows (C: ) and second (D: ) for music/video games. When I installed windows again,I just formated C: partition and D: partition would stay the same.

I was wondering,is it worth to have 2 hard disks or is it useless? What would be speed difference between both solutions?

Solution
Well it depends. If its anything less than 1 TB, then don't mind buying another one. If its more than or equal to 1TB, you can suffice in that storage with 2 partitions. It greatly depends on how full they get and how fast.

Speed remains more or less the same if the drive has enough space and good RPM. For eg, a 2 TB 200MB/s with 500GB free will easily operate at 175MB/s.

The speed of drive itself, vary from drive to drive, from 50 to 200 MB/s. SSDs go up from about 400-500MB/s. Hope this helps.

If you have 2 disks, anything done on one disk won't really affect anything on the other. If one disk dies, the data on the other disk is still intact. My suggestion would be to get a SSD for the OS, and a HDD for your programs and data. This would make your computer much faster.
