Is the R9 290 worth it?

I have two main questions

Will an A8 6600k 3.9ghz CPU work with the 290?

Will Gigabyte F2A88XM-DS2 + the 290 work? Would it fit?

Mmm... it will work, but that CPU is shit, so you won't get much out of 290

Hmm… at least I know it will work, ty. How bad do you feel the 6600k will hold it down? Also what would you reccomend in place of it?

If you want to replace the processor, also bear in mind that you may need a new motherboard. The A line uses the FM2 socket, but the FX line uses the AM3+ socket.

As far as recommendations go, ditch the A series completely. In fact, I'd urge you to ditch AMD entirely unless you're on a very strict budget.

Whether you ditch the AMD cpu or not, the R9 290 is a very good card and well worth it. Especially if you pair it with a strong Intel or AMD cpu.
