I have an i7-3770k, amd r9 290 (sapphire tri-X), asrock extreme4 z77, 8 GB ram and 650 watt psu. I mainly use this pc for gaming, 3d modelling and video editing. How much should I overclock my CPU so that my performance increases but my pc will still last a long time? Is there a sensible upper boundary for temperatures and voltages to keep within in order to maintain system longevity?

Thanks in advance.

Generally the ideal target is 65C but 75-80 is liveable, but will decrease the life of your CPU, I don't know exactly how much it will decrease it by but it will be a bit

Oh I see thank you. I've had this computer for a while now but the reason I've started thinking aout overclocking is because yesterday I was using a play station 2 emulator and the game I was playing was rather laggy, and it took me ages to get it to run smoothly. I was wondering if an overclocked cpu would run this faster with less hassle? Or is the gpu still the limiting factor. Furthermore I was under the impression that adobe after effects was more cpu intensive than gpu intensive while rendering. Was I incorrect in assuming this?

PS2 emulators are very CPU intensive so if you overclock you will see performance increases, and as for how far you can overclock, it is till you reach the highest frequency stable configuration/the limit of safe temperatures

How much would this reduce the life of my computer? Is there a temperature to stay under where it is unlikely to harm the system too much, say, something like 75/80 Celsius?
