GPU forms/designs question

What are the proper names for the forms of this card? Both are GTX770.

I call this rear exhaust

But what is the proper term?

I often hear people saying "reference" design. But what does that mean?

Reference design is the stock cooler design by Nvidea or AMD. The top cooler is the 770 reference design, where as the second one has Asus's custom cooler. The top card is a 'blower' but i've heard people call it a 'rear exaust' and the bottom is 'open air' so you're spot on with the second one, and everyone would know what you mean by rear exhaust.
