Hi everyone,
I need a NAS storage system for all of my media, but I am completely stuck on what NAS to use! I have considered the WD Red drives and they look pretty good, but price is certainly priority here, a big problem when it comes to NAS drives! The minimum capacity for this application is 1TB and the max that I'm willing to spend is about £100, more than that is incredibly difficult for me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, :)
Many thanks,
Sam.

My dad is using WD hard drives in his Synology server for his office. It was decently easy to set up when I was walked through the steps by a technical support agent. He set it up with 15 TB of space which is probably more then you need. So an alternative is as followed...

If you have a netgear router with a usb port already then just shop for a cheap drive and get any external hard drive bay that stands up like one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Hard-Drive-Enclosures/SubCategory/ID-92

As for a cheap drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339

After this, use ReadySHARE program after installing the drive into the USB and turning on the bay.
(You may need to set up an account for this. It should be free.)...

Hey Bookaboy. stoopiedas actually gave you a pretty decent advice about the router, but I wouldn't recommend the WD Blue for a NAS enclosure. If you search a bit more, you'll probably be able to find 2 x 1TB WD Red drives near you price range. The WD RED drive is specifically designed to run in NAS and RAID environments. They are very reliable and extensively tested for 24/7 usage. The WD Red drive also have its own support line.
You can take a closer look at it's features here: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=810

Hope that helps.
