I just recently built a computer and wanted to test it out on a game known as minecraft. On this game I have been getting mojar lag spikes and sometimes very low FPS. I even with V-sync off in-game. It would be very much appreciated if you could guide me through this mess.

Are you running the latest, non-Beta drivers for your GTX 770?

You can uninstall your current drivers by going to Add/Remove Programs and removing the unwanted drivers or, even better, by going to Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Display Adapters > Right-Click your GTX 770 > Select 'Properties' > Select ' Drivers' Tab and select 'Uninstall' then reboot your system.

Proceed to www.nvidia.com and download the latest, non-beta drivers for your GPU.

Also - Ensure the GPU is fully inserted in its PCIe x16 slot, not at an angle, and that the PSU Graphics Card Power Connectors are firmly and fully attached to the card.

Hope that helps.

Both of those tips are what I already have and done. So it's other than that.

You could try increasing Java's CPU priority.

Press CTRL + ALT + ESCAPE while on the desktop to open Task Manager. Scroll through the list of programs until you find Java, Right-Click it and set priority to slightly higher than what it is currently.

WARNING: Don't ever set a program's priority to the maximum setting as this can cause errors with other, more essential programs on your PC.

You could try increasing Java's available memory.

Go to Control Panel > Click the 'Java' Icon > In 'Java Control Panel' click the 'Java' Tab > Click the 'View...' button > Write in the 'Runtime Paramteters' box (for each possible entry write this once): -Xmx1024m.

This will increase Java's available RAM from 256MB to 1024MB. It's advised that you can safely allocate up to 1/3 (One third) of your RAM to Java, so you can increase the '1024' number to something higher if you have more than 3GB of RAM.

Hopefully that will work.

There are two possibilities if you're sure (without being able to offer any evidence whatsoever...) that it is your GPU's fault:

1. Hardware fault with the GPU. Either you have installed it incorrectly, it has slipped out of correct installation due to heat stress, or it is physically damaged. The first two issues can be solved by physically inspecting and reseating the GPU. The third can only be solved by testing someone else's GPU in your machine.

2. Incorrect drivers or corrupt driver installation. Solveable by my first post.

Did you know: Java only addresses 256mb of memory by default. This is not enough memory to run Minecraft at a smooth framerate. Most minecraft framerate stuttering is caused by Java's memory limitation. This can be solved by increasing available memory as described in my above post. I'm not saying this is the answer, but at least try it.

If you have a 64-bit version of windows it would help if you install a 64-bit version of Java as well. Just in case.
