Leading up to issue : Went for supper so my computer went to sleep. My computer does not handle sleep well and most often will not wake so i forced a shutdown and restarted. On startup the computer showed no signs of anything going wrong other than the usual windows did not shut down properly.

The problem is I can no longer connect to the internet through the Ethernet port on my motherboard. My computer has no other way of connecting to the internet other than this. Ive tested the cable relentlessly with other pc's and its fine. Ive used other ports on the router. Ive disabled and re-enabled the adapter. Ive restarted the computer. The only hint that the computer gives to seeing the cable is that when plugged in the adapter status goes from cable disconnected to "enabled".

I personally think its an issue with the motherboard because the green and orange lights are not on when the cable is plugged in. But I'd like to have a second opinion.

Solution
Did you check in bios to see if it's disabled? Does it show up in device manager?

I think that if it was disabled in bios, then the lights may not work - like your seeing.
Other than this, I would think the NIC is dead.
