Hello,

I have been working on this problem for the past two days and I just can't get it to work.

I had an employee disconnect themselves from our work domain by accident and send me the computer to recover their files.

When I turned on the computer it asks to log into an account that I have never seen before. It gives no other options to switch users and every password I have tried is wrong.

I have tried activating the Administrator account but to no avail, using the Windows 7 install disk and using the command prompt there, it said the "net user Administrator active:yes" command has succeeded but nothing new shows up. I've tried to change the password of the account at the log-in screen but all it says is that the account does not exist. Checking the users on the computer only reveals there to be Administrator and Guest, nothing else.

I have tried running in Safe Mode with Command Prompt but the Command Prompt does not show up. I'm not sure what else to try to activate the Administrator account, any suggestions would be nice.

Thanks,
Matt

You may need to plug the drive into another machine to access the files if you cannot logon to the machine.

Best way is to have the user logon to that other machine and they will have full permissions to the original drive's user profile.
If not possible then change the permissions on the folder as an admin and backup the drive.
