I have to bring my laptop for service. I'd like to keep the technician from being able to see anything in My Documents (local, not network), which contains lots of personal and financial data. Is there a way to allow them to update the laptop without being able to open any of my personal documents?

More about : restrict access local documents folder windows

for me.. I would copy all my personal stuff off the laptop completely before handing it over..
and putting it back after.

Is that an option for you?

You could use Truecrypt 7.1 to do the folder while its away and then remove the encryption on its return.

Don't forget to clear any browser cookies, history, passwords etc and delete any files in the TEMP folder that are older than the day you start your cleanup.

Yes, this is an option, and the one I am most likely to implement. Thank you.
