Greetings gentlemen,

My present config:

Asus P8H61-M LE
i5-2400 stock @3.10 Ghz
XFX Radeon HD 6790 1GB
Corsair VX450W
4GB RAM

After asking here about a GPU upgrade I was about to get a Sapphire R9 280X 3GB for US$ 350 when I found a Sapphire HD 7950 3GB for US$ 305. I know they are pretty much the same with an advantage for the R9 but would the 7950 be a good card for new-gen gaming (Watch Dogs, Dragon Age, The Witcher 3 etc) at 900p, maybe 1080p?

Thanks in advance,

The 7950 is basically the same as the R9 280 without the X , The 280 is tweaked and supported by Mantle but lacks the support of True Audio If I remember correctly so I think that the R9 280 can be found at a much lower price than your specified price and even there are some 280X that are about 300$ so I think you should go with these ( 280X From XFX is about 300$ and very solid choice , much better than the dual X from sapphire )

Either way it's probably best to stick with the newer generation of cards, unless you can get the card for like 50% off. Your best bet is the newer generation as it has more features and gets better support.

Thank you all for your answers. I will get the 280X. You are right... A newer card is probably better even if it's "the same".
