so i recently acquired a 500gb wd black 2.5 " laptop hdd. i want to replace my 160gb drive with this new on. the problem i have is when i isntall it, and try to install win 7 onto it, it says drives not found. but when i put it in my desktop, it was visible and said it was healthy. also, it is visible in my laptop bios as well. not sure what is going on. i was told it was formatted, is that the problem? not sure how to un-format if so either. thanks in advance!!!!!

yep, make sure you have your windows disc inserted into the DVD rom and restart the computer, should give you the prompt that says "press any key to boot from DVD drive" and from there it should be easy..

are you installing the OS by restarting the PC or are you trying to install it in windows?

after putting the driver tool box onto my external hdd. and after re booting to install win7, i browsed for the driver on the ext hdd and it says " no signed device drivers were found. make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK. this is very frustrating. i went to the gateway drivers downloads and i dont see anything regarding a storage controller at all.
