hi, I'm currently looking for a new computer after much searching i have arrived to these two computers,
http://www.dell.com/fr/p/inspiron-15-5547-laptop/pd?oc=...
and
http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00170911.html
first off is a dell which has a better cpu (an i7 4510u) but the asus has a less good processor (i5 4210u) but a better gpu (840m vs the dell's AMD R7 m265).
I'm mostly going to use my computer for gaming(not expecting to be able to play in ultra hi def, more in the casual approach) , watching films and maybe a bit of solidworks design. hope you can help, nonketytonk

go with the one with the better gpu (r7 265) , unless the i7 is a quad core in which case i'd be torn between the two

Both the R7 M265 and the GT 840M have almost the same performance (the 840M is bit more powerful), so it's hard to say which one is better for you. Both CPUs are strong enough for gaming, they don't count in these comparative.

Check the gaming benchmarks here to see if the games you want to play run better on which GPU:

For games the GPU is more important.

On a side note ASUS is higher build quality then Dell.
Dell used to be on top and then around 2009/2010 they seemed to just let everything slide down and try to sustain on nothing more then previous high reputation.

Agreed.

My actual Dell, i bought it a year ago, is quite good: i5-3210M, 4GB 1600MHz RAM (upgraded to 2x4GB 1866MHz), 750GB HDD (upgraded to 128GB SSD), 4 USB 3.0, almost 7hrs of battery life, etc.

But it does feel cheap built. The display is not bad but definitely not good, it sometimes look like the old LCD one, it viewing angles are bad. The laptop has too much plastic.

But i saw the Asus laptop has only 1 RAM slot.
