Hi all

I've decided that I'm going to upgrade the stock cooler of my AMD FX-6300. My original plan was to get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, as I had heard good things about it, and its quite cheap. My intention was to overclock as much as was sensible.

I then decided I would like to also add 2 120mm top exhaust fans to my case (an Aerocool Dead Silence). I hadnt decided on which fans exactly, but just something functional, and preferably quiet. The problem is that my motherboard only supports 2 fans, and I already have front and rear fans. Therefore to support the 2 extra fans, it looks like I'd have to get a fan speed controller of some sort (as I'm not too keen on the fans running at 100% all the time).

This all adds up in price, and I'm beginning to think I might instead opt for a Corsair H105 (or perhaps a H100i), as this would both cool the CPU better, and provide the 2 top exhaust fans (that could both run off the CPU fan slot using a Y adapter). Would this be a better alternative to getting a heatsink, 2 fans, and a speed controller?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like a good alternative to me, the larger water cooler will give you better temps so you can push your over clock a little harder.

On the other hand you can get fans that come with 4 pin molex connections and connect them directly to your PSU. I don't know what case you have but the EVO plus two top fans might get a bit crowded.

If you can afford a H105 or H100i, might as well get a Noctua NH-D14 or Phanteks PH-TC14PE if your case supports tall CPU coolers.

Grab the 100i if you have the money. That would help and kill two birds with one stones! :-D

Thanks for the replies

My case is an Aerocool Dead Silence (http://www.aerocool.us/ds/ds_bk.html)
I don't know if this is at all helpful by my mobo is a MSI 760GMA-P34 (FX)

Another question I guess I should really be asking is if the 2 top exhaust are really necessary?

They really are, more important then side fans in fact, as heat rises, so all heat goes to the top where your fans can blow it all out.

Ok interesting to know

What made you recommend the H100i over the H105 in your previous message?

It's been tested more and reviewed with a lot of good ratings!
