how important is matching component color schemes?

I have a red a black color scheme in my custom build but the card I want is black and blue. What should I do?

Sapphire Radeon VAPOR-X R9 290X is black and blue card and does not match my system.

I am very serious. Everything matches in my system. I don't want to compromise performance and I want a high end 290x. I would simply get the asus direct cuII or matrix but both of those are known to come with elipda ram and I also want a card that is guaranteed to have hynix ram hence the sapphire vapor x tri x or sapphire tri-x oc which is black and orange.

Kind of depends on which you personally value more - performance or aesthetics. If you're going to feel regretful every time you look in your case and see the black and blue clashing with the rest of the rig, then you should try to find a card that matches your theme and comes as close as possible to the same performance.

If you're going to feel regretful every time you play a game and think, "Man! I could be getting at least 5 FPS better if I'd gotten that Sapphire, dammit!", then get the clashing card.

In that case you should absolulty keep the same color combination, you should get half as good of a card at double the price to keep it. Thats why i color match my vacuum hoses in my car, that way it adds 45 horse power to the engine, 105 HP when i get NOS.

The asus model is not junk at all. but it is known to have elipda ram. elipda ram has been linked to black screen issues, slightly poorer performance and performance degradation with slight vram overclocks. Hynix ram is known to be the better quality vram so I want to make sure I get that.

Asus has apparently upgraded the vram power delivery components- vrms and improved performance and stability of the elipda ram but I still dont want elipda.

Maybe so, in which case I picked a bad example. My point was that there's nothing wrong with having things that look good, especially if you can get good looks AND good performance. The hottest performing custom systems I've ever seen, online or in person, were also the best looking (and color themed). I will admit that good looking junk and ugly high-performance machines are both usually cheaper than good looking high-performance builds.

Personally, I go for performance but assuming that everyone else has the same preferences and priorities is a mistake. Just sayin'...

I hear what your saying. but we are comparing the best of the best 290x vs other 290xs. They are all going to go to the show. I was just torn between the number 1 card off color vs others in the top ten.

all I expect is that it works as advertised. all the hype means nothing to me but after I hook it up and see for myself on if I got hosed or my moneys worth . I got some nice top end stuff that I thought fell short and I got some ''get by'' parts that ended up not being get by, and exceed my expectations like this $125 powercolor card I got for a back up it came in so I pulled the nice sapphire out c to be sure it worked and 5 months later its still in here running that nice $260 sapphire is now the back up [go figure]

you choose one and it will work as you want or it don't its all a roll of the dice
the card you got may have been the last one on the line Friday and the worker wanted to get the heck out of there and just chunked it together to finish his day as in screw this thing I'm out of here and then that's the card you ended up with

I went with the Sapphire Tri-X oc. Its black and orange as opposed to black and blue vapor x model. The performance should be negligible. The tri'x oc was the best performer before the vapor tri x came out. I also saved almost a hundred dollars. The black and orange card wont clash as much with my color scheme.

I received my supposed to be new card. :/ . I got an open box item, it looked like a monkey rummaged through the accessories compartment, the card itself had bent fins, and to top it off I got three black screens in less than an hour of testing. I shipped the card back to amazon the same day.

Red and black? Check. Looks good? Check. Not junk? Check. Sold.

By the way, it's kind of a crap shoot with the Elpida memory. With Asus, I don't know the series numbers but some cards come with Samsung, some with Elpida. Same thing with the Sapphires, so it's not like buying a Sapphire is a sure bet to get the Hynix memory. MSI and EVGA both use Elpida also. If you don't OC your GPUs it's a moot point anyway. I could be wrong, but as far as I know, none of the 780 TI's come with Elpida. If anyone knows different, please post.

From the research I have done so far, only the sapphire tri-x models all come with hynix. Most other models are hit and miss. I am now looking at the evga 780FTW or going all out with the evga 780ti classified. Both of these have upgraded power delivery systems and samsung vram.

I was going through OCN and found two posts by JacobF. Last November, he said that the Kingpin was the only card that came guaranteed with Hynix and that the other cards were going to be Hynix, Samsung or Elpida. Then he posted again in January and said this:

"No its not correct. Kingpin are all Samsung. Classified could be Samsung or Hynix. All other cards may be Samsung, Hynix or Elpida."

Doing more searching, I've found at least one post (again on OCN) in April about a member receiving a Classified with Elpida. Wonder how long till all the Elpida variants are off the shelf. Still researching the Asus use.

I'm fairly confident if I buy an evga 780 or 780ti that I will get samsung memory. maybe 95% to 5% chance samsung to elpida. I have not seen any recent reviews on newegg or amazon of buyers receiving models with elpida.
