Hi all. I've had my eye on the Windforce OC 290x for a while, and I've heard very mixed reviews and feelings about it. I've heard stories of cards that burn out, cards that come DOA, cards which sputter and die after anywhere from a day to a couple of weeks, but I've also heard that it is a kickass card and that it's very quiet and able to keep the temps a good deal under 80. It's also significantly cheaper than a lot of the other models. I'm nervous however to put it in my system due to the reported problems and the reviews on both amazon and newegg which are largely negative. Can I get any insight or advice? Thank you.

These issues can happen, you can't get a 100% in yield when producing these products.
Windforce OC 290x should be ok. If you do have an issue, you are entitled for a replacement/refund.
Note there will be more negative reviews since many people don't leave feedback when it is working correctly.

Okay. Thank you a lot. That eased me some.

Windforce is inferior to Sapphire's Tri-X and MSI is shit really... Had 2 MSI cards that died on me, my home is officially declared a no-MSI zone since then.

I suggest against getting it - of course you can get one and it may work for years and be awesome about it, but even then it's not a Tri-X when it comes to cooler quality.

Windforce is still decent enough for a R9 290. You just biased to say sapphire since you have one.

No I am biased to Sapphire because before buying my card I literally dug our 10+ different reviews that gave me the exact answer to the same question OP had.

Besides that, out of 3 MSI cards I ever owned 2 died, I had 2x MSI 8800GTS and MSI 280GTX, 280 and 8800 died for no reason after one and two years respectively.

I also owned 2 Sapphire cards - Radeon 9500 PRO and Radeon HD 6990, I used both for couple of years and u can still use them if I would want to, since both are rock solid.

As for Gigabyte, their motherboard makes me want to toss it out of the window, but other than that no beef with them.

As for Tri-X, besides the fact that Sapphire proved themselves to me, it is basically THE best 290X cooler available in the market and you are welcome to hit the reviews, just like I did two months ago.
