Dell Latitude 5410 RAM upgrade problems

I've got a Dell Latitude 5410 right now. It came with 4GB (2gb x 2 sticks) of ram. I recently bought a single 8gb stick to upgrade the ram to something a bit better. However, I'm running into technical difficulties.

I started by taking out one of the 2 gig cards and replacing it with the 8 gig. I checked in bios and found that it was all there (about 10 gigs) and proceeded to boot up. The computer goes to the windows 8 load screen (with the windows 8 icon and the spinning circles indicating load), but after about 2 seconds it stops, flashes a bluescreen too fast to read, and then reboots.

Trying it with just the 8 gig stick (because I recently found out that it only runs up to 8 gigs and thought that might be the problem), it makes it to the windows 8 load screen, then turns off hard (and makes a chirping sound that I think might be coming from my hard-drive).

With the original cards (or even just 1 of them) the laptop runs just fine.

I booted with a CD "memtest86" and ran a very long memory test and no errors can be found on the 8 gig card.

About 2 months ago I replaced the HDD (came with a 120GB) with a 500GB HDD. After about a week of working it started to have weird BlueScreen problems like what I get now when I have a 2gb and the 8gb cards installed, but after working in vain for about 5 hours it suddenly stopped having problems for no apparent reason. I was hoping the same would happen here but its been a full day now.

As far as I can tell the RAM is fine, but windows doesn't know how to use it. I'm running Windows 8 (not 8.1 because everytime I "upgrade" to that the computer says its not working and reverts back to normal 8) 64 bit. It has the standard i5 processor that comes with the laptop.

I'm at a complete loss.

That would be a good answer except that I've been trying to run the 8GB stick by itself, and thus mixing brands and sizes of RAM isn't the problem. The problem also isn't that my computer needs 2 cards to run since I've often been running my laptop with just one of the 2GB sticks during this workthrough.

Still could use some help here.
