Hello Tomsharware. I have my i7 4770k oc-ed at 4.4 ghz, on a asus maximus vi hero mb, with a h100i cooler. I have a question: is it normal for the core speed to be always at 4.4ghz? Is this how oc works? Or it should bounce from 800 hz to 4.4ghz when needed? Also, what are cpu C states?

The short answer is that it depends on how you overclock.

If you overclock by changing the turbo speeds and keep all of intel's power saving features on, then yes, it should ramp down to an idle speed and then gear up when you ask more of it.

If you overclock the old-school way that a lot of us prefer, it involves turning off power saving and speed step, disabling turbo, and directly changing the CPU multiplier, which will result in a CPU that runs at the speed you set it all the time.

The C states are various low-power sleep modes - you shouldn't have to worry about them for overclocking.

In my motherboard I v=can set the options so that when im not doing anything it goes down to 800mhz and 0.8v and when it need the power goes to 4.6ghz 1.2v, I have a 4670k so you should be able to do that, put the core voltage on dynamic, and the cpu multiplier on dynamic mode too
