Sound card opinions and options!

Hello all,
I'm looking at getting a sound card very soon because I recently bought a 7.1 surround sound headset so I shouldd get a sound card to match right? Will it make that much of a difference with one? I am no audiophile, but if it makes that much of a difference I'll pay ~70$. I know asus makes a good one but I want all of your opinions! Thanks in advanced!

Yes they are it's own box connected externally which is pretty neat as they can do their own thing externally. There are plenty of reviews out there:

And practically every forum thread I have read in debate between an external vs an internal an external has always been the favourite!

To be honest I have never heard of an external sound card, but i like the conecept of it! Since it is being plugged into a USB port it wont effect sound quality will it? Sorry not to familiar with sound stuuf with a computer. Thanks!
