Static electricity and grounding yourself!

Just wanted some advice...I have a anti static wristband, will this work if I unplug the PC and work on it? Or should I be using other good practices? I read the pc should still be plugged in but turned off (Obviously)

I have been using the band and working on my pc - attaching it to the case....it's on a carpet though...so started worrying - anything I'm doing wrong?

When you work on the pc, make sure the power plug is not connected to the socket, attach it around your ankle and leave the otehr end on the floor (assuming you have floorboard and not carpet) , that way, you can work at ease as the strap cannot interfere with your hands and you are also safe

I've build 3 computers and cleaned them manually (even with a brush) without wearing a wristband e.e nothing wrong ever happened. HOWEVER, I may just be lucky or a non-static person
